Hot Buttered Rum

Angela's Refreshing Beverage of the Week
Hot Buttered Rum

Makes 4 drinks.
2 cups water
1/2 stick unsalted butter
1/4 cup packed dark brown sugar
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp freshly grated nutmeg
1/4 tsp ground cloves
1/8 tsp salt
2/3 cup dark rum — Like Meyer's

Bring water, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves and salt to a boil in a 1 1/2 to 2 qt saucepan over moderately high heat. Reduce heat and simmer, whisking occasionally, 10 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in rum. Serve hot. For added creaminess, add a splash of 1/2 and 1/2 to each cup.
