Hello My People, Meet My New People!

I am now part of a great new team! For those of you who have been following this blog for a while, you know I have moved back home to New York. The whole experience has been quite a comedy of errors. Basically everything that could go wrong did, but fortunately we are now all settled and happy (if only the black ice would disappear). I have found my new home at Neuman's Kitchen on the Lower East Side and I am loving it! I hope to be be posting some photos and recipes of the cool projects I am working on there soon!

Here's a lovely note from my dear friend Diane;
Stacy,
As my mother used to say "If the road didn't have bends and twists, we would fall asleep at the wheel." So pleased that your road has taken you to a good place.

Personal Update

Where's Waldo?
Hello my people! Just wanted to give you a little update — I am currently in New York City where my family and I will be permanently relocating as soon as I secure a great cooking job. In the meantime, I am in the city doing interviews and auditions, wandering around, and eating great food.

Yesterday, I had lunch at the Union Square Cafe, one of my all-time favorite restaurants. Every aspect of the food and service was perfect (as always!). This restaurant is the cornerstone of Danny Meyer's empire (which is currently massive). We celebrated my friend Dona's birthday with a gluten-free caramelized banana tart and a long thin candle. Dona enjoyed a roast broccoli melt with Manchego cheese and Meyer lemon on gluten-free bread with house-made potato chips. I went with a classic grilled tuna burger, which came with some cumin-scented coleslaw, on a house-made bun and with roasted red onion. Their food is very well thought out, presented clean and simply, and the service attentive but never annoying. How come I could never have this experience in Santa Fe?

I've been reading their blog (which they call "Columns"). It features recipes, book reviews, sales at Provisions (the new Food52 shop), contests, and interviews. Here's the link to the RSS feed for Food52 Columns.

The Splendid Table
Lynne Rosetto Kasper will never steer you wrong. Here are the three different RSS feeds:Here's the link to WAMU radio's different internet streams.
They air The Splendid Table Saturday afternoons at 3:00 PM Eastern time.
Happy surfing!

Hi everyone, Monica here.

You may have noticed the new look for the site. There may be some intermittent weirdness with links and things while I sort stuff out. Thanks for your patience!

blog updates

Hi everyone, Monica here.

As you may have noticed, KSFR has been playing re-run episodes of MoW the past few weeks. Stacy's no longer going to be doing the show (see the new FAQ!), but she's super excited to to be exploring new writing options here on the website.

Stacy's working on some new things that you'll see here over the next few months, like:
  • more recipes, more photos;
  • stories about her life in food, from family to career;
  • getting back into restaurant reviews;
  • tips and techniques;
  • equipment advice; and
  • interviews with interesting people who love to cook!

One thing that Stacy hopes to do more of is to hear from you! Comments are open on this post, so if you have any suggestions, or are particularly excited about anything in the list above, please let us know! Just click on the "comments" link below and follow directions in the pop-up window. Comments will be moderated, so it may take a bit for your comment to show up. Thanks!

Hello, my people! Do I have a some big news for you!

I have decided to stop producing my weekly radio show Mouth of Wonder.

Why? well, after 7 years of struggling to find time to write the show (which usually happened at 5:00 AM the morning of), trying to line up a co-host or weekly guest, and then trying to get to the studio to record — oi vey — I need a rest!

Does this mean I am off to the Bahamas to start my 'round-the-world sailing trip? I wish! Instead, I am going to turn this blog into a tour de force of information, entertainment, and hopefully fame and stardom. Rachael Ray, watch your ass!

How, you ask? With the help of my team of brilliant designers, photographers, and friends we are going to take it up a few notches. You'll soon see a redesign, making this the most fun, go-to food blog on the interwebs. We'll be adding new sections and topics, lots more photos and video, and opening up comments so we can chat!

(And if you still need some Mouth of Wonder radio in your life: KSFR will be running a selection of old classic episodes at the regular time while they work out a replacement show; there are shows available on iTunes; AND older shows at PRX.)

So stay tuned, stay hungry, and go cook something already!

Late shows and the Rula calendar!

Apology of the week
Okay my people, I have been bad. The holidays got the best of me and I neglected to update my recipes for the last two weeks. I just fixed that and I resolve to do a better job keeping up in the new year! Thanks for all the great emails and input this past year and I look forward to hearing from you all! May the force be with you!
xoxo
Stacy

ALSO! There are still a few Rula Calendars available for sale! So hit that Paypal button and make the magic happen!

Website updates!

hi folks, Monica here.

Well, except for the audio posts and iTunes Podcast, all my updates are pretty much finished here. Here's a quick rundown of some of the changes:
  • The archive links in the sidebar are formatted a little differently now, just click on the little arrows next to each year or month to see an expanded list of all the posts.
  • The search box in the sidebar has a new results function. It shows you your search results right on the page, instead of taking you away to a separate Google page, like it did before.
  • I've added some links for post categories in the sidebar. These are Stacy's usual radio show segments: Refreshing Beverage, Altitude Adjustment, Seasonal Recipe of the Week. The link for Reviews has also been moved there. When you click on any of these, you'll get a results page with the 20 most recent posts tagged with each category. At the bottom of the page, there will be links for Older and Newer Posts. Just click on those to page through.
  • The Cookbook Corner is now a long list in the left-hand sidebar. Is this more annoying than having it on a separate page? On the other hand, it alphabetizes itself automatically now.
  • On the cosmetic side, there's a new background tile (salmon boomerangs!) on all the pages, until I can figure out a good way to randomize it. And the scallop-ey edge along the top seems to have decided that it prefers being folded over.
As for the Podcast ...sigh... ah, the Podcast. The Audio posts and iTunes podcast are disabled, for now, while I figure out a workaround, since Blogger doesn't do audio hosting. Until then, you can always listen live on the KSFR web stream, and later at PRX.

If anyone has any suggestions, please leave a comment on this post. Thanks for your patience, everyone!

GEEK ALERT! Please excuse our dust

Hi everyone, I'm going to be doing some back-end geekery over the next few days. My apologies in advance for any technical difficulties or weird-looking layouts you may encounter. Hopefully any disruption will be minimal.

Since coding always makes me thirsty, I'll leave the comments for this post open in the hopes that you will share your favorite Refreshing Beverage recipes. I'll start:

Michelada

Ingredients
1 bottle of beer (Corona is good)
Worcestershire sauce
Tabasco sauce
limes

Procedure
Pour beer into a glass with ice, add Worcestershire and Tabasco to taste. Squeeze a lime wedge into glass. Drink.

Peanuts are good with this. You can also salt the rim, but that sounds an awful lot like planning ahead.

Repeat Show!

Today's show was a classic from last September.
What? You didn't think it's classic?
Oh, well, I figured if it works for the Car Talk guys...

Here are the posts from the archives:See you next week!

Website Updates!

Hi there, all you Mouth of Wonder fans! Monica here, just letting you know that there are a bunch of new and improved features here at mouthofwonder.com.

There's a new Guest Hosts page featuring Stacy's co-hosts, past, present, and even future! (Don't miss Susan Purdy, who will be Stacy's guest on next week's show.)

And speaking of catching shows, we now link to KSFR's webstream page (which has a new MP3 stream just for us Mac users!) from the updated Podcast page.

There are fun new background patterns (my Grandmother-in-law's kitchen counters look just like that pink one!), and an explanation of the Bagel Rating System.

There's an even an easy way to get to the 20 most recent Restaurant Reviews now. And if that doesn't work for you, try the Google search box over there on the left — it's programmed to search only the Mouth of Wonder website. Isn't technology neat?

The links for all this good stuff are up there on the top left of every page, right above the Mouth of Wonder logo. Enjoy!
